Lightweight construction potential in the overall system
Our work focuses on the design and development of weight-optimized, reliable battery systems. Since the cells alone and the number required to supply energy in mobile applications make it difficult to realize significant lightweight construction potential, our research concentrates on lightweight construction potential in the overall system. This includes cell connectors, the design and layout of lightweight battery housings and other structural components, and the design and layout of application-specific cooling systems, new arrangement, interconnection, and battery management concepts.
In addition to lightweight construction, another focus of our development work is on the easy dismantling of the systems. This must be taken into account during the design and layout phase in order to be able to efficiently recycle the sustainable and recyclable materials used.
Concept, design, and layout
We offer research and development work in the following areas:
- Concept, design, and application-oriented layout of weight-optimized, reliable housings and other components for the structural integration of battery systems
- Concept and implementation of weight- and application-optimized cooling systems and battery management systems
- Operating data acquisition/load data determination and the determination of design collectives for the application-optimized development of battery systems
- Synthesis of data from different sources (e.g., comparative measurements and digital models)
- Material development and selection as well as design and layout, taking into account the “suitability for series production” of subsequent manufacturing processes
- Consumption and powertrain simulation for consumption-optimized, energy-efficient route planning in vehicle applications
- Prototype construction of battery systems and their LCA evaluation
To ensure the safe operation of the systems, we draw on the excellent expertise of our scientists and the unique technical infrastructure for experimental and numerical analysis for reliability and service life evaluation, which is a part of our in-house development.
